The Purpose Of Teaching Pilates... Is Not Teaching Pilates?

Mar 09, 2024

Many pilates certification providers leave new instructors unprepared for the challenges of real world teaching.

Often new instructors must strictly adhere to outdated processes, reciting lists of things they must say and do.

The result... blind obedience is rewarded and new instructors are encouraged to simply tick the boxes to pass assessment.

Missing is being prepared for the real world challenges... like how to adapt exercise to different people based on their body mass, body length and ability level.

Missing is the realisation that reformer pilates is just another form of resistance training, and fundamental training principles (like progressive overload) apply here too.

Instructors need a grounding in basic training principles.

They need to be encouraged to think critically and make their own decisions.

We need to be creating leaders, not followers.
